COFFEE BREAK WITH...Nick Louis, Finance Consultant - Christie Finance

- Where were you when you accepted your role at Christie Finance?
At work in my old job and I had to keep it secret for a week as my boss was on holiday.
- What was your first job?
I was a waiter in the local fine dining restaurant called Peck’s. After working their for a year I transferred to being a chef, which I continued to do for the next 3 years.
- In a couple of sentences, can you tell us a bit about your job at Christie Finance?
I work as a finance consultant specialising in funding trading businesses. My background in hotels, restaurants and care enables me to understand and relate to my clients’ challenges and needs.
- What’s your favourite thing about Christie Finance?
The depth and quality of the team. They have great knowledge from their previous roles working for the banks, which they then use when creating a bank proposal, which makes the lenders job so much easier when taking on a client.
- What's a favourite project that you’ve worked on at Christie Finance so far?
I’m currently working on a hotel purchase for a client. The hotel is in the Peak district, and I used to ride past the hotel around 6am every day during my training rides. The client is based in India and is looking to increase the size of their British portfolio.
- What’s been a highlight of your career so far?
Securing bridging finance for a client buying at auction in 7 days, when his original broker let him down
- How has the industry changed since you started at Christie Finance?
I’ve only been her 4 months, so not much.
- Tell us a bit about your life outside work – what are your hobbies?
My wife and I have two young boys, and our free time is spent walking in the countryside and riding bikes. I used to race bikes before we had our boys, and I am currently trying to get my old fitness levels back.
- What’s your hometown? Where do you live now?
I grew up in Congleton, Cheshire and then moved away living in Kitzbühel, Austria, King’s Lynn and then Birmingham before moving back to Congleton in 2014.
- Where’s the best place you’ve been on holiday?
For my 30th we bought a van and then converted it into a campervan. We then spent a month touring France, Italy and Germany. Our favourite place was a small mountain town in the French alps, called Valloire.
- What’s your biggest pet peeve?
People being rude.
- If you could live and work in any city, where would you go?
Annecy, France.
- What would be your desert island meal?
A takeaway from our local Chinese.
- What is one thing on your bucket list?
I would love to do a 5-day cycling stage race in the alps.
- What news source do you read every day?
I don’t read a news source, but I like to listen to Wake up to Money on BBC Radio 5.
- What’s your social media platform of choice?
I like to browse LinkedIn to see what my connections are up to in their various businesses.
