Boutique Scottish hotel on picturesque isle refinanced
Specialist commercial finance broker, Christie Finance, has recently helped the directors of Dunorin Ltd, refinance their boutique hotel, The Hame Hotel, situated on the Isle of Skye, further to the major redevelopments and refurbishments made since the purchase at the end of 2017.
Directors, Calum MacKinnon, Mungo Laing and Sam Paulo, purchased the hotel nearly two years ago as the B&B formerly known as The Dunorin Hotel. Following their purchase, they closed the business for four months, during which time they undertook a complete renovation of the property and business, reopening in May 2018 ready for the new season.
Within just four months, the newly named Hame Hotel was ready to receive guests in its contemporary and simplistic yet high-quality rooms, complete with locally sourced complimentary toiletries across all 10 en-suites. Having widened their offering, the hotel now offers an updated yet uncomplicated menu, using locally sourced produce and championing the fare of the Highlands and Scottish isles.
The daily management of the business is now run by hands-on operators Mungo and his wife, Flora Laing who works as the chef. Providing the branding and strategic input is Calum MacKinnon, founder of London based, popular Scottish restaurant Mac and Wild, famed for it’s offering of meat, game and seafood. Sam Paulo was also able to provide his own experience in renovation having previously done so on several residential projects. With such an array of independent expertise, the three directors have plans to continue to grow the business, primarily with their own food and drink offering.
The Hame Hotel on the Isle of Skye is located in a small settlement called Roag, near the village of Dunvegan, a popular tourist destination due to its rugged terrain, history, and food and drink offering including Michelin starred restaurants and whisky distilleries.
Craig Dickson, Director of Christie Finance who arranged the funding, comments, from the outset it was clear that the team at Hame Hotel were determined to deliver a high-quality product and I certainly think they have achieved this. I’ve no doubt that going forward the business will continue to be a great success.
