Cornwall favourite, The King's Head, purchased by butcher and winegrower, Glen Symons
First time buyer, Glen Symons has recently purchased the freehold of award-winning gastro pub, The King’s Head, with secured funding through specialist commercial finance broker, Christie Finance.
Located just a short drive from Truro, The King’s Head is situated in the picturesque Cornish village of Roseland Peninsula. The gastro pub is known for its strong food offering and attracts visitors from surrounding villages, which has earned the business an 84% ‘Excellent’ rating on TripAdvisor and awards including ‘Taste of the West Gold Award’ and ‘Cornish Tourists Gold Award.’
The new owner, Glen Symons, is no stranger to commercial ventures, having over 15 years’ experience as a business owner. Currently, Glen owns a 180 cow pedigree beef herd, producing quality beef to local celebrity chef Simon Stallard of ‘The Hidden Hut,’ as well as running his own on-site butchers for a five year period. Furthermore, as an experienced winemaker, Glen also owns a 35 acre vineyard and last year produced 45 tons of grapes for five UK wineries, including the award winning Lyme Bay Winery in Dorset, whilst maintaining his own selection of 3,000 bottles, all available to purchase.
Glen’s friend and business partner, Colin Marriot will also be on hand to assist with the daily operation of The King’s Head. Colin is also highly experienced, having previously owned a local pub and restaurant, and will be able to offer plenty of valuable insight whilst also continuing his role as Chairman of Servicesport UK Ltd.
Ways in which to grow upon the existing offering and excellent reputation are already being considered, with plans to increase sales of the recently refurbished B&B letting rooms as well as increasing the food offering, from opening seven days a week to hiring a new, local and established chef to aide with the redesign of the menu.
Glen comments, “By using Christie Finance, I managed to get a very competitive interest rate, all by using a one shop basis and not having to shop around.”
Emma Vanson, Finance Consultant at Christie Finance who handled the deal, comments, “It was a pleasure working with Glen. I wish him all the best and can’t wait to see how he’ll use his wealth of experience and background to build upon The King’s Head’s current reputation and popularity.”
